Reviews the stabilization and adjustment policies pursued by Argentina, Chile and Uruguay and shows why and how the adjustment model applied by the IMF should be reformed. Concludes that IMF programs have been severely wanting and suggests alternative approaches to adjustment and debt renegotiation.
