Discusses the exchange-rate regimes and policies that the five Andean economies have set in place over the past decade. Reviews and classifies the exchange-rate regime for each economy, the combinations of objectives the authorities aimed to achieve, and the consequences of their choices. Seeks to draw lessons about the consequences of exchange-rate policies and regimes for the various aspects of macroeconomic performance. Discusses the consequences that the five nations' different choices of regime have had for intra regional trade.
