Post-harvest losses and quality changes in hot peppers (capsicum frutesceus L.) in the roadside marketing system in Trinidad.

Mohammed, Majeed

Post-harvest losses and quality changes in hot peppers (capsicum frutesceus L.) in the roadside marketing system in Trinidad. - 1992

Examines post-harvest losses through five defined stages: (1) field harvest; (2) packing house arrival; (3) storage conditions; (4) roadside market display; and (5) consumer conditions in the post-harvest handling system of roadside retail markets. Notes that there is a total loss of 28.6 and 38.7 percent of initial commodity weight in dry and wet seasons respectively. Bruising was the major cost of wastage, followed by physiological and pathological damage in the field, packing house and storage stages.
