Summary: Reviews some of the major developments in the international debate on developing island countries which focus on particular aspects eg. their size, difficulties faced in respect of transport and communications, lack of marketing expertise, highly limited internal markets and lack of natural resources. Discusses the economic viability of the OECS as well as possibilities of reducing vulnerability to threats from external powers and sharp economic fluctuation. Identifies areas for national action to reduce vulnerability and increase viability of the OECS States.
