Summary: Investigates possibilities of developing the ceramic industry in CARICOM particularly the branches of ceramic tiles, sanitary ware and electrical porcelain. Concludes that the markets in member states were large enough to accomodate small to medium-scale plants. Shows the need for protection of the industry and suggests the raising of the tariff on ceramic tiles by 25 per cent. Reviews the status of ceramic industries in Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. Outlines a development strategy for the ceramic industry. Discusses financing of the project and summarizes the financial and economic implications of pursuing it.
