Summary: Examines the Caribbean and the Enterprise for the Americas Initiative in the context of wider prevailing international conditions. Looks at the nature of EAI and the serious concerns it raises for Caribbean integration and development. Concludes that although there are potential benefits for Latin America and the Caribbean, EAI's purpose is to benefit the United States. The Caribbean work which has the potential to threaten regional integration; and its detailed provisions, which may divert attention from important questions concerning regional integration and development today.
