Summary: Provides perspectives on alternative frameworks for assessing exchange rates and the rationale for the Coordinating Group on Exchange Rate Issues (CGER)'s general approach. Updates the description of the methodology for assessing the current accounts and exchange rates of industrial countries, pointing to the relative strengths and weaknesses of CGER's analytical framework and the judgements involved in deriving and interpreting the quantitative assessments.
