Stresses the need for an approach to education which fosters positive attitudes towards the environment, and which translates into positve action to maintain the integrity of the region's natural resource base. Reviews some of the strategies being adopted in the English-speaking Caribbean. Identifies some constraints to a more dynamic impact in attitudes and behaviour as: insufficient funding for environmental education programmes; need for greater networking inter-regionally as well as internationally; need for more teacher training in environmental issues; the negative impacts of structural adjustment programmes on educational infrastructure.
