Discusses the recent emergence and alarming increase of street children in Trinidad. Traces the relationship between family and society, highlighting the impact of slavery and indenture, patriarchy and poverty, structural adjustment and the international economic order. Concludes that street children in Trinidad are the victims of peripheral capitalism and globalisation, not the result of any inherent inadequacy and moral breakdown in Caribbean family life.
