Examines the various types of environmental movements in the region, and divides them into two groups - the ecologists and the environmentalists. Notes that the ecologists stress the need to preserve, conserve and protect nature, whereas the environmentalists view environmental problems from the standpoint of how they relate to economic, political and social development. Examines the progress and shortcomings of environmental cooperation in the region.
