Summary: Assesses the role played by the private institutions, within the sector, in the mobilisation and allocation of savings in Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. Examines the performance of the commercial banks to ascertain the extent to which institutions in the sector changed their pattern of lending and investment, in a period when regional governments were making major efforts to have domestic firms engage in non-traditional activities, especially those geared towards external markets.
