Describes an intranet as an internal Internet. Intranets use the same technology as the Internet : the same networking and communications standards, the same types of hardware and the same software. The difference is that the Internet has open, world-wide access, while an intranet is used by a closed, relatively tightly-defined community. Notes that the issues surrounding the introduction and use of an intranet are centred around technology, information and cultural change.
