Summary: Suggests the environment that is influencing and/or will continue to influence the development of the agriculture sector in countries that are members of the Inter American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). Describes the challenges that the sector will encounter in the first decades of the new millennium and finally, describes the efforts of the Caribbean Regional Centre (CaRC) of IICA to assist the agricultural sector to meet the challenges and increase its importance in the prevailing environment.
