Summary: Examines Switzerland's response to the social dimensions of globalization. Provides an overview of trade, investment and labour market developments that could be regarded as marking a phase of increased economic interdependence for Switzerland. Focuses on the possible links between trade and labour markets. Deals with the factors and conditions that may either facilitate or pose problems for the policy and institutional reforms required for optimizing the benefits of globalization, while at the same time lowering the attendence and social costs.
