Reviews the successful launching of social dialogue in Barbados, including an identificaiton of some of the key contributory factors to the evolution of social partnership among the triparite partners in the country. Examines attempts at instituting social dialogue in other Caribbean countries. Argues that a number of basic underlying conditions are yet to be put in place in order for social dialogue to take firm root and contribute to socio-economic development.
