Begins by examining human nutritional requirements and the nutritional value of foods. Examines the concept of an ideal diet and presents the current concensus of the experts on what constitutes a healthy diet. Focuses primarily however, on disorders occurring throughout the digestive tract e.g. swallowing ailments, inflammation and ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, acute and chronic liver disease etc., and attempts to define the role of diet in preventing, causing and treating them.
