Presents the findings of a study to show that public perceptions of crime and delinquency in a very small country such as Barbados will be determined both by general beliefs about crime, and by local conditions. Although local factors may influence opinion in any society, present results also hint at a powerful role for the mass media, which in Barbados exhibit both limited diversity and very wide accessibility.
