Points out that the act of consumption in Trinidad - be it the imported soap opera, the car or the expenditure associated with Christmas - may be considered as the means by which the island community creates its sense of itself. It is through the process of importation and appropriation that Trinidad creates its sense of specificity, that which makes it unique.
