Summary: Demonstrates how the Caribbean Community's Work Programme and, more specifically, that of the Directorate of Regional Trade and Economic Integration has had to assist Member States to respond to the many challenges inherent in a new situation. Indicates that this situation is one in which in order to sell their products, small countries and islands states of the Caribbean must not only be economically competitive, but must also produce under constraining conditions to preserve the environment.
