Summary: Analyzes pension reform in Latin America. Examines the gender-related features of the concepts of social citizenship on which pension policy to date has been based. Looks at pension systems as one of many care mechanisms and considers them in the context of the social evolution from which they emerged. Provides a fresh approach to the study of social pensions. Deals with the apparently neutral or advantageous nature of many of the pension benefits provided to women.
