Summary: Reflects on the state of publishing in the region. Argues that there should be a national press or a press devoted to publishing in the region that principle of publishing is first and foremost about the knowledge it preserves and distributes, and this may have to be at the expense of economic gain. Notes that self publishing cannot replace the traditional publishing system since there is no effective means of quality control or of quality enhancement.
