Presents most commonly used methods of investment calculation and their applications.  Considers problems of system optimization according to technical and economic criteria as applied to the energy field.  Describes data upon which a calculation of profitability must be based and indicates methods for collecting and preparing same.  Discusses procedures for the financial evaluation focusing on static and dynamic procedures, sensitivity analysis and examines problem of inflation.  Case study illustrates application of different techniques.</abstract>
