  <abstract>Analyses present trends in the international industry and how these impact on the Caribbean.  Examines the competitiveness of the industry, and concludes that offshore clothing operations in the Caribbean are competitive with low-cost Asian exporters.  However, despite the potential for some Caribbean countries, the future growth of the industry will require well thought-out trade and industrial policies.</abstract>
