NANDAKUMAR, T.

International spice marketing and the Uruguay Round Agreements. - 1997

Summarises the major areas of impact of the various agreements on trade in spices, which are mostly grown and exported by developing countries, viz. trade among developing countries; investment opportunities; adding value; protecting plant varieties; sanitary and phytosanitary measures; input prices; and, rural development. Advises that it is important for spice-producing countries to use the differential and more favourable treatment given to them in the Agreements on trade in goods and in the Agreement on TRIPS to add more value to their exports and expand their export base; to strengthen their technological capabilities; to promote foreign direct investment; and to create competitive advantages.
