Highlights the contradictions of globalisation. Juxtaposes the apparent goals of globalisation - the exchange of ideas, individual freedom, decentering of power and knowledge, solidarity across borders, and a holistic analysis of planetary health - with the reality of deteriorating social conditions. Challenges adult educators to take the lead by exposing the economic engine of globalisation, researching new, appropriate forms of governance, reinforcing 'the local' and cultivating the cultural environment.
