<br/><br/> Analyses the politicization of debate over economic and monetary union in the period following the Maastricht Summit. Contrasts the limited engagement of domestic actors - political parties, trades unions, business organizations and public opinion - prior to 1991 with their increasingly influential reaction against convergence-driven reforms over recent years.  Acknowledges that domestic politics have consequently become integral to explaining the nature of economic and monetary integration and enumerates a number of ways in which their influence is still limited.
