  <abstract>Explores some of the developments in science education in the English speaking Caribbean over the past thirty years.  Examines the introduction of School Based Assessment (SBA) of experimental skills in science subjects offered for the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Secondary Education Certificate Examination.  Deals with the modalities used by the examining board for involving teachers in decision making, the strategies used for implementation of the innovation and the perceptions of teachers concerning the outcomes of and problems associated with it.</abstract>
