Examines the fear in the Caribbean that the Maastricht Treaty and the Single European Market (SEM) presages the end of the exclusive bilateral links between Europe and the Caribbean. Assesses the likely consequences of the SEM and the European Union (EU) on the Caribbean in the present and the future. Suggests that the Caribbean should take immediate advantage of a relatively benign short-term to reconsider and revise its relationships with the EU in the longer-term.
