Reviews intra- and extra-regional trade in the 1990s and concludes that (a) intra-regional trade strengthened; (b) intra-regional imports increased; (c) the relative importance of imports of petroleum products to total intra-regional imports continues to decline; (d) trade in non-petroleum products continues to increase; and, (e) intra-regional domestic exports continue to grow. Advises that during the 1990s the region will have to pursue a trade policy strategy which will lead to (a) the widening and deepening of the Common Market, and (b) improving extra-regional market access potentials.
