  <abstract>Points out that although EPZs are widely spread among developing countries, no theoretical consensus has been reached on the welfare and growth effects on host country economies.  Notes that one important beneficial effect of EPZs might be their role as catalysts, first initiating and transmitting export supply response and then inducing further economic reforms.</abstract>
