Trade liberalization and peripheral postindustrialization in the Caribbean - 2001

Examines the evolution and impact of neoliberal economic policies in the Caribbean economies from the enactment of the Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI) and the adoption of structural adjustment policies in the 1980s to the proposals building up to the formation of a FTAA. Analyzes the process of economic restructuring that the region is undergoing from manufacturing export platforms to peripheral postindustrial sites. Examines alternative views and policies for economic restructuring based on postindustrial activities, the implications for the region of the normalization of trade relations between China and the United States, and the conflicts around the WTO negotiations on trade liberalization.
